PULLMAN FUEL ISLAND RELOCATION
Working closely with the city, multiple site alternatives were studied and taken into consideration to choose the best location for the new fuel island. The approach, exiting, and turning radius required by the longest buses and fire department ladder trucks were accommodated through the site design process. The project included replacing three 6,000-gallon underground fuel storage tanks with one 20,000-gallon, four-compartment, above-ground fuel storage tank. The storage tank turbine, pumps, and dispenser piping were set up to accommodate two compartments each of gasoline and diesel fuels, but design flexibility was built in to accommodate any combination of gasoline, diesel, or bio-fuels that may be used in the future without refitting the system. A state-of-the-art fuel management system was added, which not only keeps track of fuel consumption for each individual vehicle or equipment asset but has the ability to run and store digital diagnostics of the asset for maintenance and performance record-keeping.
