TRI-TECH SKILLS CENTER ADDITION

The main goal of the design and layout of this new 16,200-square-foot addition was to create a welcoming, flexible, and secure educational space. The entrance area included new landscaping, bus drop-off area, and parking lot. The design included a security vestibule and special security glazing installed at strategic areas on the exterior and specific interior locations. Once inside, new programs and spaces branch out from the main corridor including an administration wing, a culinary arts wing with a full commercial kitchen, a pre-physical therapy classroom, and an exhibition space connecting to the kitchen. The exhibition space can host various educational and community events with table seating for 120 occupants. All spaces are built to be flexible for growth and future program needs as curriculum and programs change.

Owner: Kennewick School District
Location: Kennewick, WA
Scope: Addition

From the beginning, Design West worked to understand the unique needs of skills centers and had our best interest in mind, and their collaborative style worked extremely well with our team. Their approach to long-term planning, design expertise, and creativity has resulted in facilities based on solid educational programming and a building that is aesthetically pleasing and functional in its use. In addition to the design team, our architects were great listeners. Design West was always available to answer questions and responded to ideas, design changes, and change orders. Communication is a great strength for Design West, and through the process, we have developed a professional respect for their work. Every project is driven by cost and schedule control. Design West delivered on these critical elements of our project.
